Travel to the Jaén province of Andalucia, Spain (Podcast)

Hear about travel to the Jaén province of Andalucia Spain as the Beginner Traveler talks to Molly Sears-Piccavey who life in Andalucia.

Molly claims, “Jaén is a province in western Andalucia that is not seriously quite recognized or related with tourism. If we acquire southern Spain the western facet of Andalucia which is Granada, Cordoba, Jaén, and Almería are not as touristic potentially as the aspect of Andalucia which is in which Malaga and Seville are. Cordoba and Granada are really properly frequented mainly because of their Muslim architecture these kinds of as the mosque or their Alhambra Palace, but Jaén is inland and a minimal bit even further absent. And lots of people today do not control to find Jaén and I assume Jaén has a ton to give the visitor.”

“The factor that sticks out most in my head is the olive trees. It is the area in Europe with most density of olive trees, and they create clearly a whole lot of olive oil. When you journey to Jaén, Wherever you glance, you are just observing olive trees and even on the highway to Jaén as well as just olive trees as considerably as you can see. It is also a area that has a massive amount of money of castles and fortresses. They declare to be the put with the most castles in Europe. Burgalimar which is in Baños de la Encina is the oldest castle in Europe and it is so value traveling to.”

“They phone Jaén the land of battles and castles but I think they are missing the olive oil so it should be battles, castles, and olive oil.”

For around 200 yrs, Jaén was the border in between Catholic Spain and Moorish Spain, as a result the amount of castles and the walled hilltop cities.

Molly starts us in the funds of Jaén province which is the town of Jaén. We commence in the stunning cathedral of Jaén which may well look familiar as it was utilized as a product for many cathedrals in the new globe. It is proposed as a UNESCO website mainly because of this importance.

We then climb the hill for a view of the city to the Castle of Santa Catalina and the Parador of Jaén (the national lodge chain) which sit aspect by side with a look at of the town and of the 65 million olive trees in the length.

The other quit you should really make in Jaén is the Arab Bathes which are the biggest of the previous hammams from the Moorish rule. They sit under the palace of an ex-Viceroy to Peru which residences an art museum and a heritage museum.

We transfer from Jaén across the valley to the twin cities of Úbeda and Baeza which are a joint UNESCO web site for their properties built in the Spanish Renaissance design. Úbeda has a quantity of aged properties all over a huge sq. (Vázquez de Molina Sq.) which includes an aged palace which is now a Parador. There is also an ornate funerary chapel for one of the much more distinguished family members of Úbeda, and the Basílica de Santa María de los Reales Alcázares church.

Baeza is an outdated University town. The previous university is now the higher college but just one of the previous palaces has been turned into a new worldwide college. Baeza has a quieter whitewashed Andalucian town sense with compact streets and flower containers.

Molly also suggests visiting Baños de la Encina and the Burgalimar Castle as effectively as Alcalá la True and its Fortaleza de La Mota. These metropolitan areas ended up even closer to the border with Moorish Grenada so they had the far more major fortifications.

Jaén also has 4 purely natural parks with a wide range of things to do which includes climbing, but Molly who prospects food stuff excursions focuses us additional on spots we can get a good meal.

Jaén is a beautiful location of Spain that warrants additional tourism than it gets… but you may not want to go to in the heat of the summer season as I did not too long ago on a press vacation.

Patron Jeff commented on Travel to the South of Iceland – Beginner Traveler Episode 802

The South Iceland episode brought back again so several recollections of Iceland. 1 of my memories was the properties to the “hidden people” (gnomes, elves and so forth.) which are rock piles exactly where the roads are developed close to. Just one fun activity I enjoyed was pet sledding on Myrdalsjokull Glacier. At last, a check out to the Westmann Islands is excellent but you may possibly look at a sightseeing flight of Surtsey Island. This island emerged in a volcanic eruption in November 1963 from less than the ocean. I really do not know if it even now retains the designation of currently being the most recent island on earth to be created. It is a scientific reserve with entry by allow only, so a sightseeing flight is the only way to see it. They are researching plant and animal lifetime colonizing the island. An added reward was also the sights of Iceland’s countryside and coast from the air which includes the Westmann Islands.

Forgot to comment about the warm canine.  Icelanders like their warm puppies (pylsa). You can get them

just about everywhere, bacon wrapped etcetera. The greatest dog in Reykjavik is at Baejarins Beztu a modest 10×10 shack produced famed by then President Clinton stopping by and acquiring a incredibly hot puppy.  It’s the “Pink’s” of Reykjavik.
